TIMI is a rockabilly / psychobilly band.

Rockabilly:-    

It is a fusion of blues, hillbilly boogie, bluegrass music and country music. 

A mix between the British punk rock of the 1970s and the American rockabilly of the 1950s. The genre is also characterized by lyrical references to horror films, lurid sexuality and other topics generally considered taboo, although presented in a comedic, tongue-in-cheek fashion.  No political references, as used in Punk, are made.

We only play original music and our main motto is to have fun.

TIMI was formed in 2002 in a garage in a previously quiet suburb of Randburg.

What's with the name?

The name is quite a long story.  Ages ago there was a TV series called "Dinosaurs" with the baby Dinosaur who hit his tree-pushing Dad (Not the Mamma).  Anyway a sub show of that series had a scientist and his assistant (Timmy).  The scientist used to always blow up or destroy said Timmy and then yell "we're gonna need another Timmy".  How does this relate to us?  About the time we were forming the band, we were very into Robot Wars and designed a cool bot to go forth and destroy all other robots.  During testing, the bot would obviously get quite damaged (i.e. by being hit by a five pound hammer, driven over by the car etc).  SO . . . he was named Timmy because we're gonna need another Timmy.  The name was then adopted for the band but changed to be spelt TIMI.  The spelling is in case someday we make the letters stand for something.  A suggestion of Totally Insane Moronic Idiots has already been made!

Influences

We have a variety of bands that we worship and adore; Rammstein, System of a Down, Pixies, Korn, Offspring, Violent Femmes, Blink 182 to name a few.  You'll also find a few oddities in our music collection such as Sarah Brightman, Enya, Beethoven, The Dubliners,  and the Oh Brother where art thou Soundtrack. Might explain our weird sound!

The bands that influence our music most are The Pixies, Rammstein, Type O Negative and recently the South African bands Roswell Kings, The Diesel Whores and The Narrow. The Pixies are just classic for their odd lyrics, simple song structure and imposing front man.  Rammstein has magnificent stage presence and simple hardcore music.  Type O Negative adds a slightly wacky influence in the form of lyrics and undefinable genre. 

Science Fiction in the form of books, movies (Starship Troopers – yay) and TV Series (Stargate rocks) influences our lyrics. Check out the song Stargate.
